All clay poker chips have some percentage of composite materials in them. The composite materials give the chip strength. A 100% pure clay chip would be extremely brittle and easy to break. Even our casino grade poker chips which have a higher percentage of clay can be broken in half, if you try to break them.

Generally, the more expensive a clay chip costs, the higher the percentage of clay it is made with. It is more complex to manufacturer chips with a higher clay content.

Weight has nothing to do with quality. Our highest quality chips are the 10 gram chips. The weight of a chip is is purely personal preference. Our most popular chips are the heavier 14 gram clay chips.

All clay chips that weigh more than 11.5 grams have a metal insert in them to give them their weight. The larger the weight the heavier the chip.

I ordered the 500 pc. set and 200 additional chips (I wanted 100 $10 chips and 25 of each of the high value chips). I paid $39.99 for the set and $16 for the additional 200 ($1.99/25 chips). They are a good value for the money. They ARE mostly plastic, which is what one would expect for the price. It is definitely a quality plastic (I think a percentage is clay), but they still feel like plastic. They have a pretty good sound and the weight is nice. The graphics are a high-quality sticker, thus far none have come loose.
If you are looking for authentic casino chips made of nearly pure clay, which have been decorated with top-quality materials and dry fired in a kiln to produce a top-of-the line casino chip, then these are not for you. If you want top-of-the line then you will need to spend $1.40-$1.60 per chip and buy Paulson, Archetype, Protege Clay, CHIPCO, or similar. Personally, I would love a set of Paulson TH&C chips....but I don't have $1,500 to wager, let alone fart away on chips.
If you are looking for a decent set to upgrade from the 2g colored pieces of cheap plastic that you got from Wal-mart for ten bucks, then these may be exactly what you want. They look good, they feel good, they sound good, and most important of all, they make for a fun game for less then $0.10 per chip. Overall, I'm happy with them. I have seen this exact set for 3x more on other sites, so if you want them, this is the place to buy them.
